This employment opportunity is open to all applicants.

Under the direction of the Service Advisor/Garage Foreman, the Automotive Shop Helper will be responsible for supporting the maintanance, repair and overhauling of municipal equipment and vehicles, maintaining shop equipment and tools in accordance with safety regulations. They will also be responsible to keep the garage clean and orderly to maintain safety standards, and assist with inspecting equipment and performing preventative maintenance tasks in accordance with the maintenance management system. The Shop helper is an entry-level position to the HD/Auto Mechanic apprenticeship program.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have successfully completed pre trade entry exam prior to commencement of employment.
• Must have strong technical and mechanical abilities with experience in routine maintenance operations.
• Must have valid class 3 drivers license.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Ability to deal with other staff members in a courteous and respectful manner in a team enviornment
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Must be available to work evenings and weekends, when required

• Ability to plan, coordinate and prioritize several projects simultaneously
• Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts
• Ability to maintain emotional control in stressful situations
• Ability to speak Inuktitut is an asset

Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate would be required to submit a Criminal Record Check, as well as an acceptable Driver’s Abstract.
