About Us


The Correctional Services division of the Department of Justice is responsible for the administration and operation of community and custody-based programs and services for adult offenders and young persons.


Within the Correctional Services core business area there are two programs: community corrections & correctional facilities. Each of these program areas is broken down into closely related activities that have a specific impact on the program's target group.

About Our Opportunity


As the Secretary you will be responsible, on an individual and shared basis, for providing secretarial, reception, and administrative support in the Community Corrections office. You will also co-ordinate correspondence and schedules pertaining to Probation Officers’ appointments and Community Service Work and Volunteers in Corrections and other programs.


You will be responsible for maintaining administrative and offender files and appropriate follow-up systems and disbursements pertaining to financial matters, supplies, statistical submissions, inventory, etc. You will type from digital recordings, confidential investigative reports/evaluations, correspondence, file documentation, court documents, and forms and certificates. As well you will sort and distribute mail and provide telephone and reception duties and on-going contact with court, public prosecution and police personnel.


Qualifications and Experience


As the successful candidate you will have a one-year commercial course supplemented by three years of secretarial experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.


Your previous experience and proficiency with digital recordings and current word processing software is required and must be indicated on your resume. You have developed strong communication skills in interacting with a variety of people and will demonstrate these skills during the interview process.


You possess excellent organizational skills, prioritization, judgment and initiative, as the successful candidate will work well independently and as part of a team. Discretion and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality is extremely important in this environment.


Knowledge of court procedures and correctional services would be considered an asset.

Pay Grade: CL 18

Salary Range: $1,675.62 - $1,874.80 Bi-Weekly
