The Dehcho Divisional Education Council invites applications for the 2023-2024 school year from certified teachers who are dedicated to teaching and have experience with the cultural. Linguistic and traditional heritage of the Dene
Available Position: PROGRAM SUPPORT TEACHER
( Indeterminate)
The Itinerant Program Support Teacher will work with five Dehcho communities to increase the support to the teachers/principals in Nahanni Butte, Kakisa, Wrigley, Sambaa K’e, and Jean Marie River through regular visits to each community. In assisting the principal/teachers to provide programs for all students under the guidelines of Inclusive Schooling, the professional educator should have a repertoire of instructions, assessment and behavioral techniques. The individual should be prepared to facilitate staff training, staff and parent meetings, and use a student centered coaching model in various classroom settings. The successful candidate will travel approximately 60-75% of the time by road and/or air.
Qualifications:
The applicant:
- Must hold, or be eligible for a N.W.T. Professional Teaching Certificate;
- Must hold a Bachelor of Education degree or higher
- Must have a minimum of three years successful teaching experience at the Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 level.
- Must have education, training, and or experience in the areas of inclusion, assessment and support, literacy, numeracy, differentiated instruction, self-regulation, flexible instructional strategies, Autism Spectrum Disorder and experience with co-teaching.
- Should have an understanding of inclusionary policies in the NWT.
- Should have experience with NWT/Alberta curricula.
- Should have experience with the development of Student Support Plans and Individual Education Plans,
- Should demonstrate ability to plan and provide programs and supports that reflect inclusion in multi-level classrooms
- Should demonstrate the ability to lead training workshops for staff
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Should demonstrate the ability to promote a culturally relevant program that supports the language and cultural heritage of the students and meets the inclusive learning needs of all students
