This position is a blend of teaching French subjects for students from Grades 6-12 and Foods/ Culinary Arts from Grades 8-12.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent degree;
  • A post-secondary specialization in Intensive French, French Immersion, Enriched French, or second language acquisition training;
  • A post-secondary specialization in Culinary Arts would be an asset;
  • Experience teaching French language
  • Experience in provided land-based programming for Grades 7-12 students is an asset;
  • Experience in adapting curriculum to meet a wide range of learning abilities and styles with a strong focus on numeracy and literacy;
  • Experience developing and implementing the requirements of an Individualized Education Plan, Student Learning Plans and Behavior Support Plan and Safety Plans;
  • Experience in self- regulation and restorative practices would be considered an asset;
  • Experience working in a Yukon First Nations setting and in teaching First Nations students would be an asset.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability:

  • Capable of teaching a differentiated group of learners in an inclusive or pull out program as required;
  • Ability to co-teach with classroom teachers;
  • Demonstrated ability to modify and adapt curriculum to meet a range of learning abilities and styles and to meet the needs of students with Individual Education Plans;
  • A philosophy of inclusive education; excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills to work closely with students, staff, parents, consultants, related agencies, and the greater community in meeting the social, emotional and academic needs of all students;
  • Ability to play a leadership role with the School Based Team and classroom teachers in implementing differentiated instruction and assessment practices and in developing, implementing and evaluating appropriate Individual Education Plans, Student Learning Plans, Behaviour Support Plans, Safety Plans, and other related student plans;
  • Excellent curriculum knowledge and experience, with specialized knowledge and skills in assessing and responding to student needs in social/emotional domains, behaviour management, threat assessment and crisis intervention;
  • Willingness and ability work as a member of a team to promote, support and work collaboratively with all staff members on multiple school goals and initiatives (such as PBIS and Restorative Practices);
  • Skills in legal and ethical decision-making, identifying and making appropriate referrals and in interpreting and implementing recommendations from specialized assessments;
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate experiential learning and cultural practices into curriculum;
  • Familiarity with Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in culture and in teaching First Nations students is desirable;
  • A knowledge of & sensitivity to the culture & aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population is required;
  • An awareness of the unique challenges of northern education;
  • A commitment to live, work and participate as a member of a small, isolated, rural community.


  • To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/territory first.
  • Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security/vulnerable sector check.
