Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Accounting Coordinator I, this position performs a variety of clerical duties.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Coordinates the Division’s payroll system for the Saskatoon Water Division. Verifies and processes related documents.
2. Develops and maintains various reports related to staff leaves, overtime, banked time etc.
3. Responds to payroll and contract related enquiries from employees.
4. Prepares and processes a variety of accounts payable/receivable documents and verifies correct general ledger coding.
5. Assists with preparation of various operating budget estimates.
6. Enters data and prepares reports pertaining to operational requirements.
7. Provides direction and acts as a team lead with the administrative staff as required.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 education.
  • Successful completion of a recognized one year post-secondary business related program, plus or including:
    • Introductory Accounting 1
    • Introductory Accounting 2
    • Intermediate Accounting 1
    • Intermediate Accounting 2
    • Management Accounting 1
    • Management Accounting 2
    • Commercial Law
  • Four years’ progressively responsible related payroll/accounting clerk experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of modern office management procedures and systems.
  • Considerable knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
  • Considerable knowledge of payroll terminology and accounting procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of federal and provincial laws, City regulations and union agreements applicable to payroll.
  • Knowledge of computer payroll systems.
  • Ability to initiate and implement improvements to office systems.
  • Ability to function in a team environment.
  • Ability to interpret, and make decisions in accordance with, established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work with related data processing documents.
  • Skill in the operation of office equipment, including a microcomputer with word processing and spreadsheet software.
Additional Requirements
Weekly Hours: 38.75
Salary Range: $28.86 to $31.47 CAD per annum (2019 rates)
