The Opportunity
Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), a leader Canadian habitat conservation, is seeking a highly motivated student to fill the Wetland summer Conservation Technician position in The Pas, Manitoba.

Duties may include:
Day-to-day operation and maintenance of DUC’s wetland projects which may include beaver and vegetation debris removal by hand and high-pressure water pump, water control structure operations, sign installation and equipment, yard and shop maintenance while planning field activities within a team environment.

The work will involve liaising with private landowners, Indigenous communities and Provincial representatives. You will also be responsible for working with staff in completing wetland biological assessments and various other field data collection.

This position, which will be based from our office in The Pas, Manitoba, involves physical work, heavy lifting and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Our ideal candidate will be able to take direction and execute tasks in a safe and efficient manner without direct supervision.

Additional Details
  • Available for work between mid-May and late-August (approximately 15 -17 weeks)
  • Full-time student between the ages of 17 and 30
  • The position is based on funding where the successful candidate must be a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full time basis in the next academic year
Requirements
  • Experience operating ATV’s, boats and towing trailers
  • Experience operating brush mowers, brush saws, chain-saws and power tools
  • Navigating within remote landscapes
  • GIS capabilities, familiar with GPS units
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Valid driver’s license; some travel within Manitoba
  • Operating licenses or training for ATV’s, boats, and chain-saws are beneficial, but not required
  • Ability to work flexible hours and with a strong work ethic
  • Comfortable working as part of a team or independently
  • Must have a passion for conservation, the environment and the outdoors.
Salary Range: $16 - $18 per hour
