The Ministry of Highways, Southern Operations is seeking an individual for a Supervisor of Operations in the Bengough Section. In the Supervisor position, you will be responsible for year-round maintenance of an assigned portion of provincial highways and related facilities. Duties include supervising staff, planning and organizing work, preparing reports on human resources, equipment and materials and operating maintenance equipment.
The successful candidate will have the ability to identify and diagnose equipment failure and perform minor repairs; assess day to day road conditions and apply the required treatment; and clearly and accurately explain complex issues, policies and procedures to clients and stakeholders. You will also be able to organize, record, and present verbal and written information in a clear, concise, complete, accurate and timely manner. You will be able to prepare work schedules, instruct, guide, coach and encourage others to enhance their job performance and further develop their skills. You will also independently and in consideration of deadlines and resource availability, plan, organize and prioritize work activities to meet program mandate. You will have the ability to work independently and as a team member within the workplace to meet program needs. You will also be able to create an environment that supports, respects and welcomes diversity; and lead, guide and encourage staff to maintain a positive and productive work environment. You will also be able to satisfy the physical requirements and demands of the position.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of occupational health, workplace hazardous materials and dangerous goods policies and practices; highway maintenance program including the proper use of material and equipment, asset management, budgets and planning, Material Management (MM) systems; and highway maintenance policies and practices. Knowledge of computer applications and databases such as: MS Word, Excel and electronic mail, Codes, CDQ, FMIS and Data Viewer Enterprise; and human resource management practices, including strategies to build, support and maintain a diverse workforce are also required.

To qualify for this position you will possess a valid Class 1A operator’s license.
