POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director oversees and supports staff, develops and implements the strategic plan, ensures strong financial management, initiates fundraising, engages in partnerships and develops programs. The Executive Director represents the organization publicly, serving as a bilingual spokesperson with the media and other stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP

Conducts internal and external research to identify emerging issues, changing needs and conditions of the communities serviced by the CDNBCA

Sets goals, develops and evaluates programs & services in line with strategic plan and Theory of Change

Oversees the organization’s day-to-day operations, programs and activities and reporting progress, impacts and challenges to the Board regularly

Represents the organization publicly (communicates the goals, purposes and programs of the organization to partner organizations, the media and other audiences)

Attends and directs all Board meetings as well as and department/ committee meetings are required

Provides leadership and assistance to the board in developing and reviewing the organization’s mission, vision, strategic plan and Theory of Change

Increases visibility, understanding of and support of the CDNBCA’s mission and goals with the community, partners and stakeholders

Assists in creation of board-led policy

Oversees policy Implementation and risk management systems

Participates in networking and community relations activities on behalf of the organization

Oversees member recruitment and relationships

Actively initiates all funding and grant opportunities for the organization.

II. HUMAN RESOURCES

1. Implements Board of Directors’ HR policies, acting as resource person as needed

2. Manages grievances and disciplinary measures as needed, with support from the Board

3. Develops and implements plans for staff’s professional development

4. Encourages team-building in a community-based environment by facilitating open

communication and positive working relationships with all staff

5. Sets clear goals with realistic and measurable job performance objectives & provides

6. appropriate feedback and evaluation in collaboration with direct supervisors

7. Leads the recruitment, selection, orientation and training of new staff & volunteers as needed

8. Participates in initial and annual evaluations of staff

9. Contributes to creating a work culture that promotes mutual support and respect, retention, innovation and accountability

III. FINANCE

Works with and reports to the Board’s Finance committee regularly, ensuring that the organization’s financial resources are properly managed

Co-develops the annual budget with the Board of Directors

Assists the board in developing and implementing a fundraising action plan that includes outreach to private foundations, corporations, government agencies, small businesses and individuals

Oversees any special or annual fundraising campaigns or events as needed

Ensures implementation of Board of Directors policies for allocation and disbursement of resources

Supervises the bookkeeper and related activities

Directs year-end activities and interacts with Auditor during the audit

Reviews and ensures accuracy of all financial statements and budget reports

Assesses and manages risks to the CDNBCA’s financial security and growth, as well organization’s banking and investments

Holds the pen on all grant and funding applications once approved by the Board of Directors.

IV. PROGRAMS

Ensures that programs and services are grounded in and adapted to community needs, taking into account any major shifts in the environment

Oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services, in partnership with program staff and managers

Ensures that programs are in line with the strategic plan, Theory of Change and policies

Offers support to program staff and managers on a regular basis

Provides regular and reliable reports on program development and impacts

Ensures regular collection of statistics and socio-demographic data on participants, in a secure and confidential manner

Produces reports to funders and agencies as required, in partnership with program staff and managers

QUALIFICATIONS:

● B.A. or CEGEP Diploma with 5 years of experience in a related field and/ or 5 years of community and management experience

● Excellent knowledge of the English-speaking community and its needs

● Experience with fundraising and grant-writing

● Experience leading a team/HR experience

● Good knowledge of other organizations serving and affiliated with the Black community

● Excellent leadership skills, initiative and strong work ethic

● Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal in both official languages (English and French)

● Strong references

● Assets: Ability to work flexible hours and access to vehicle

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $70,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
