Labour Market Supplement - Recruitment and Retention - Nurse, Nurse Practitioner and Midwifery Positions - Yellowknife

A recruitment and retention supplement will be offered to front line Nurse, Nurse Practitioner and Midwifery positions within the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority. The successful incumbent will receive a $5000 supplement upon hire and an additional $5000 supplement after completion of 12 months of continuous employment contingent on remaining employed in an eligible position for a further 12 months. This is a taxable benefit and will be subject to applicable deductions.

The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority –Stanton Territorial Hospital (NTHSSA) is offering challenging nursing work and work life balance. Join our health care team as a Registered Nurse (RN). Stanton Territorial Hospital (STH) is a 100 in-patient bed accredited facility, located in Yellowknife Northwest Territories (NWT). This is an exciting time to work at Stanton as the hospital is undergoing major redevelopment with a new $350 million facility being built with operations scheduled to transition into the new facility in 2019, for more information on the redevelopment visit www.stantonrenewal.ca. STH is the referral center for approximately 43,000 NWT residents and 5,900 residents from the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut. STH provides health care services to adults and children on an inpatient/outpatient and outreach basis in order to restore health with dignity. STH maintains a tobacco free environment within the building and throughout the property, recognizing the health hazards associated with tobacco in the workplace, both to smokers and non-smokers alike. Therefore, Stanton maintains a tobacco free environment within the building and throughout the property.

Job Information

Located within Stanton and reporting directly to the Manager, Specialist, Renal and Chemotherapy Services, the Registered Nurse, Dialysis (RN) provides culturally sensitive care to inpatients and outpatients living with renal disease. This position may also be required to assist with the management and teaching for patients with renal insufficiency on hemodialysis.

The incumbent is a member of the nursing team who provides direct care to inpatients and outpatients receiving treatment for renal disease (i.e. hemodialysis, change an artificial kidney, etc.) as well as counselling and educating those at risk. A specialist/physician is not always readily available. When necessary the RN will contact a specialist, southern hospitals and or transplant labs to address out of the ordinary complications (may be done via Telehealth technology). As a result, this position makes independent day-to-day decisions regarding individual nursing care plans based on standing orders.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
A Nursing Degree and hemodialysis training from a hospital approved course, and one (1) year of directly related experience in a healthcare setting.
