The Role

This is a senior appointment with long-term career potential, working in a sector which is responding to and addressing the risks associated with climate change– identified as the most significant risks to global economic development. The aim of this role is to contribute to building the Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Planning market and services of Climalogik Inc., supported by our other areas of expertise (https://climalogik.ca/expertise/).

This role has an incredible opportunity for growth across technical, product and leadership/management realms. As an early-stage start-up, we have more hypotheses than answers. It makes for a wild ride and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to grow on multiple fronts, we’d love to chat.

Climalogik is seeking a Lead – Climate Risk, Resilience and Sustainability to grow our Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Planning Team. This exciting, entrepreneurial opportunity will see you engaging and working with key clients in Federal, Provincial, Regional and Local Governments, as well as existing and new Climalogik clients in the private sector. The primary role of the Lead will be to conduct professional consulting work. This requires the application of climate risk assessment and sustainability concepts in planning and conducting projects having scope for independent accomplishment and coordination of the difficult and responsible assignments. As such, the successful candidate will act as Project Manager and Subject Matter Expert to deliver successful projects and to build Climalogik’s brand reputation for superior quality technical work with a high customer focus.

The successful candidate will provide leadership in the growth and development of Climalogik’s Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Planning practice across Canada and internationally. The incumbent will provide technical leadership and senior project management and will play a lead role in marketing, client development and major project pursuits. Experience with assessing climate change risks related to infrastructure (e.g., transit, transportation, buildings, energy systems, municipal, etc.) is a must. Experience designing and facilitating risk assessment workshops with multi-disciplinary stakeholders is highly desirable.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Be a subject matter expert in climate change adaptation, resilience, and sustainability, with strong problem-solving capability.
  • Have broader skills and experience in the fields of climate change mitigation, sustainability and/or other relevant environmental consulting disciplines.
  • Identify and develop new opportunities, review effective technical proposals, and lead business development with new and existing clients.
  • Capitalize on existing client relationships to expand Climalogik’s profile and market share in Canada and globally through a combination of excellence in technical delivery and business development.
  • Leveraging your climate risk assessment expertise to provide defendable, strategic, and statutory advice to clients across a variety of sectors.
  • Support business development, marketing, and sales in Canada and globally by liaising with clients as well as building partnerships with other consulting, and academic and non-profit organizations.
  • Project manage a range of projects with a high degree of oversight and planning, ensuring projects are executed to time and budget constraints and to client satisfaction.
  • Perform high quality and professional technical work involving considerable independence in approach, and a high degree of originality, ingenuity, and judgement.
  • Prepare, review, and submit proposals / tenders as well as marketing materials and methods relevant to the role. Business development responsibilities will include taking a lead role on strategic account management, proposal preparation, industry tracking and generation of new business leads on major pursuits.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree(s) in Environmental Science, Climate Studies, Environmental Management, Sustainability Studies, or a related field, and demonstrated knowledge of current/emerging standards and assessment methodologies (e.g., ISO 31000, ISO 14091, PIEVC Protocol, etc.).
  • More than 6 years of consulting or other related experience, with technical competencies in design and/or operations of infrastructure in the public and/or private sectors or in climate science, climate finance, sustainability, ESG or engineering field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing organizational policies, programs, and guidance documents – pertaining to vulnerability, risk assessment, resilience, and adaptation action planning.
  • Experience with Climate Change Mitigation assessments / plans / strategies an asset.
  • Experience with Sustainability assessments / frameworks an asset.
  • Sound commercial understanding and desire to operate within a dynamic commercial environment.
  • Significant experience in the design, implementation, and management of projects in the field of climate resilience.
  • Demonstrated business development experience with a track record of securing and successfully completing climate resilience projects. Potential is more important if previous experience is unavailable.
  • Understanding of TCFD and TNFD frameworks considered an asset
  • Professional registration as a Professional Engineer/Geoscientist or relevant climate risk assessment accreditation (e.g., GARP SCR®, ENV SP) desirable.
