THE ROLE


Steeped in a rich military heritage and tradition, messes have been used by the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) throughout Canada's history to foster morale and promote military values including camaraderie and unit cohesiveness. Messes give members a strong sense of commitment to the ideas, objectives and the basic responsibility expected of them within the CAF and set the standard for military service within Canada. CFMWS provides support to all CAF messes. Specifically, PSP Hospitality Services provides expertise on operational and management practices and assists mess managers in providing quality mess hospitality services.

Under the supervision of the Mess Manager, the Head Server supervises, coordinates and schedules the activities of serving staff who prepare, portion and serve food. They will supervise staff training including training on sanitation and safety procedures. They will provide assistance at private functions in accordance with regulations specific to the outlet such as the Mess. The head server ensures housekeeping in the dining rooms and ensures area of responsibility is clean, tidy and ready for customers. They also assist in food preparation and controls cash and cash transactions.


QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED


Education, Certifications and Licenses

High school diploma AND some years of experience in food and beverage service

OR

An acceptable combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered

AND

Must be of legal age to serve alcohol in Ontario

Must possess a Responsible Service of Alcohol certification

Food Handling Certification, an asset

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Part-time position, 13.5 - 27 hours per week.
  • May be required to work weekdays, weekends, and evenings as required by the business needs.
