Summary of Duties


Under the supervision of a Neighbourhood Development and Support Manager or Supervisor, the Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for supporting on-the-ground engagement staff and strategic community engagement efforts. This position will also assist the NeighbourGood team on various projects throughout the year.


Work Performed

  • Support the improvement of outreach and engagement efforts with communities historically underrepresented in the civic process and decisions that impact their community
  • Support City staff in designing and undertaking comprehensive and effective outreach and marketing, including in person and virtual engagement strategies
  • Liaise, coordinate and provide excellent communication with team members, residents, neighbourhood groups, and City of London staff
  • Oversee the Community Connector engagement staff and administer the Welcome Kit program
  • Prepare presentations, speaking and briefing notes, and develop other related materials as requested
  • Keep accurate records and inventories of supplies, program requests and engagement events
  • Support the management of budgets and project timelines
  • Ensure team members have the supplies and resources required to be successful
  • Engage in two-way conversations with residents that will increase awareness of City projects and gather important feedback and concerns that will help inform and shape City initiatives
  • Attend evening and weekend functions/events, as required
  • Uphold strong administrative practices
  • Ensure all City of London policies and practices are followed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor


Qualifications/Experience


Proficient knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to seek and form new relationships
  • Experience with community engagement and outreach
  • Knowledge of issues impacting equity seeking populations (including anti-oppression, anti-discrimination, decolonization, anti-racism, xenophobia, ableism, etc.)
  • Fosters an environment where people feel welcomed and included
  • Knowledge of community organizations and resources a strong asset
  • Familiarity with London and its neighbourhoods
  • Ability to travel to community locations throughout London and bring supplies and equipment that may require heavy lifting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills
  • Customer service experience
  • Technical proficiencies in Microsoft Teams and Office programs
  • Confidence to use a variety of software and A/V technology
  • Motivated self-starter and willingness to take initiative
  • Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to deal with conflict and conflict resolution
  • Ability to speak other languages an asset

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree/college diploma in social sciences, recreation and leisure, community development or similar education/experience
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Current Police Reference Check required

Compensation and Other Information


Rate of Pay:
$22.00-$25.00 commensurate with experience

  • Must provide own transportation - mileage reimbursement provided
  • Successful candidate must provide a Level 1 – Criminal Records Check (CRC) prior to starting work
  • Mix of remote and in-person working environments
  • Rate of pay:
  • Commitment: March 2023 – March 2024 with possibility of extension
  • Training and orientation to begin in March

Commitment: Contract position from March 2023 the end of December 2023, with possibility of extension

Hours: This is a part-time, contract position for up to 24 hours per week, Monday through Sunday
