The Ministry of Energy and Resources is seeking a highly-motivated, confident and results oriented engineer to join the Resource Management Branch in Regina.

Reporting to a Senior Engineer, the successful candidate will perform regulatory and reservoir engineering functions with respect to the development of the province’s oil and gas and non-hydrocarbon resources. As part of a team, the successful candidate will also evaluate reservoirs for subsurface disposal and storage feasibility in the province, review technical applications, conduct engineering evaluations, and participate in developing new or modifying existing regulations and processes.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct technical evaluations including applications submitted by industry proficiently in accordance with current policy and regulatory requirements;
  • Provide engineering research, data and analysis using engineering principles to determine gaps, inconsistencies, and strategies for improvement while balancing cost;
  • Analyze and assess development of changes and updates to policies, guidelines, standards Directives, Regulation and Legislation;
  • Utilize professional communication skills to deal with inquiries, provide presentations to a diverse audience, including utilizing technical writing skills to assist in drafting technical and non-technical documents in support any deliverables required by Resource Management;
  • Represent the Resource Management Branch on working groups and committees of federal, provincial and officials.
  • Manage process systems including IRIS updates and fixes, COGNOS reports and enhancements, Petrinex enhancements, website enhancements, general operational improvements to improve ER/Industry work under existing regulations.

To qualify for this position, you will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, preferably in the petroleum discipline, and be registered (or provide proof of eligibility for registration) in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan. You will have a sound knowledge of and direct experience in petroleum engineering and legislation governing the oil and gas industry.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices in oil and gas industry;
  • Knowledge of provincial legislation, regulations, directives, and guidelines governing the oil and gas industry;
  • knowledge of geothermal, CO2 Capture and Storage, non-hydrocarbon resources development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Self-motivated; a forward thinker, with strong work ethic;
  • Ability to conduct thorough analysis, and attentive to detail to support ; and
  • Ability to organize and multitask in a high volume environment.
