Dementia Assistance and Stroke Prevention Plan

OVERVIEW

We are seeking individuals with a proven track record in providing excellent senior care and companionship for our 92-year-old father. We plan to hire one person at a time until he is comfortable with change. It is a priority he enjoys his new companions.

He has dementia, mostly short term memory loss. He an stilll read the newspaper, can follow a conversation, choose clothing from his closet and all bathroom functions are unassisted. He had 2 mini strokes due to Atrial Fibrillation and is on a stroke prevention plan. It is doctor prescribed in addition to two medications (cholesterola and blood thinner) that he exercise 30 minutes 4 days per week. He is refusing perhaps because of the need to be independent but may also have apathy from the stroke. We feel his own assistants and companions (no family) can better inspire and motivate him to revisit his enthusiasm about fitness, conversation, companionship, shared activities, and outings.

He loves to tell interesting stories, has a great sense of humour, is polite and considerate of others, can be stubborn, is sensitive to losing his independence, and it will take time for him to get used to others (not family) in his house. He is positive each day and enjoys reading, television, visitors, playing cards, conversation and story telling.

Schedules and compensations to be determined. Shift availabilities are 8-12 hours. Monday to Friday, 1-2 weekend days possibile, 8:00 am to 8:00 pm approximate wake/sleep time although wake up varies greatly. Unmonitored , (you sleep) overnights are required because of stroke plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain stroke prevention plan (meds, nutrition, daily exercise)
• Provide dementia assistance as needed
• Provide companionship and conversation
• Inspire, organize and participate in activities and outings
• Prepare healthy meals (low cholesterol or moderation)
• Light housekeeping and light laundry (also gives him space)
• Maintain clean wardrobe and lay out clothing as needed
• Hygiene and grooming reminders and hair appointments

ENVIRONMENT AND SUPPORT

• Spacious work environment in private home
• On site vehicle for outings if needed
• Home cleaning and maintenance services
• Medical monitoring
• Time off

REQUIREMENTS

• Canadian Citizen; Mature female
• Speak and understand English clearly (conversation important to client)
• Senior caregiver (dementia and emergency training)
• Are passionate about what you do (essential)
• Driver’s license and car
• Comply with background checks and employment references

Job Types: Permanent, Full-time

Salary: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
