As a Business Strategist, you will provide key leadership and support on the development and implementation of departmental improvement initiatives and departmental/service business planning, budgeting and risk related activities. You will support and implement corporate strategic initiatives within the department. You will support the management and coordination of the Corporate Governance Service including, but not limited to, developing service policy, leading policy review programs, directing administrative policy reviews, establishing governance frameworks and developing approaches to improve governance practices in the organization. Primary duties include:
  • Manage the policy review program to cyclically review all administration policies in addition to providing training and communications about the program.
  • Review and edit new and amended policies. Work with policy owners to assess policy needs, help clarify policy objectives and craft policy statements.
  • Contribute to the execution of the service governance and policy review program which aims to ensure policy is aligned with organizational strategic objectives, non-contradictory and removes policy barriers for Calgarians or business.
  • Support the Corporate Governance service by collaborating and consulting with the 17 contributing areas to develop service priorities, workplans and the four-year service plan and budget along with helping manage the Corporate Governance committee.
  • Coordinate the development of service four-year service plans and budgets for the Department and manage associated accountability reporting and enterprise risk management reporting.
  • Provide updates and recommendations to the General Manager on business planning, budgeting, risk, and corporate reporting for all business units in the department.
  • Participate in projects led by the Service excellence group which could include leading Departmental teams and managing projects to deliver on business improvement initiatives or accomplish organizational and Council strategic direction.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Business, Management, Commerce, Computer Sciences, Political Sciences, Public Administration, Public Policy or related area.
  • At least 5 years of experience in at least 2 of the following areas; strategy, policy and program development, governance, continuous improvement, risk, performance measurement, business analysis, process improvement, or information technology.
  • An understanding of municipal governance and enabling services operational processes.
  • Experience writing policies and reports will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with project management, finance and client negotiation will be considered an asset.
  • Intermediate level proficiency in MS Word, Excel and a working knowledge of Content Server will be considered an asset.
  • Success in this position requires well-developed research, analytical and problem-solving skills as well as strong communication skills.
  • Success in this position also requires facilitation skills, business and political acumen with the ability to influence others and build consensus.

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $43.33 - 57.93 per hour (2022 Rates)
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.


Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
