About Us



The Education (Reforming Teacher Profession Discipline) Amendment Act creates the Alberta Teaching Profession Commission, which appoints a Commissioner to oversee teacher, and teacher leader, conduct and competency complaints for the profession. This process will apply equally to all teacher and teacher leaders under the Education Act.

The Commission will oversee a new model for teacher and teacher leader professionalism and disciplinary matters that will bring Alberta in line with best practices used in comparable provinces and other regulated professions. The New Commission will further protect students and enhance accountability and transparency for disciplinary matters.

Role

The Commission is filling two Investigator – Team Lead positions. In this role, you will be at an advanced level of knowledge of legislation, investigation experience as well as experience related to teacher/teacher leader complaints of unprofessional conduct.

You will promote a fair teacher discipline process by providing information to the public and the Education system, conducting investigations, and taking actions under the Education Act. This includes developing an investigation plan, conducting interviews, collecting evidence, and preparing a report for the Director of Investigations and the Commissioner for next steps.

Key responsibilities include handling critical investigations, working with the Director to assign investigators, acting as lead investigator where a team of investigators are required, assisting in training and leading a team of investigators.

To aid in your success in the role, you will possess solid report writing skills, and effective listening and conflict management skills to assess the options and implications.

In this position, you will also demonstrate a high degree of discretion and discretion as well as the ability to work with complex situations under strict timelines.

Qualifications

Positions require a University graduation in a related field such as Education, Public Administration, Legal Studies supplemented by four years of progressively and related experience. Related experience is considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis (years of experience in lieu of education).

Experience/knowledge in the following are required:

  • Issues Management
  • Formal investigations
  • Project management
  • Knowledge of provincial legislation and related matters of unprofessional conduct and professional competence.


Preferences include:

  • Prosecution and administrative action experience
  • Prior work within Alberta's education system
  • Supervisory/management/leadership experience

Salary

$2,683.10 – $3,507.06 bi-weekly ($70,028 – $91,534 per year)

Notes

Hours of work are Monday – Friday 8:15am – 4:30pm, 36.25 hours/week). Due to the nature of the position, there may be occasion for work outside of these hours.
