Reporting to the Senior Technical Specialist Lead (Networks), the Senior Informatics Technician (Networks) role will be to deploy, install, administer, monitor and maintain various network components across the organization and to ensure the stability and integrity of Government of Nunavut’s (GN) network services. These networks will be composed of various technologies ranging from Ethernet, fibre and wireless segments connected through satellite from service providers which will be considered as part of this position’s responsibility. The Senior Informatics Technician (Networks) will work closely with other Senior Technical Specialists and Senior Informatics Technicians within the Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT) division to integrate infrastructure and services onto the core GN networks. The incumbent will also assist the IM/IT Solutions Delivery group in planning, design, and optimization of the expansion of infrastructures.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a Diploma in Computer Sciences, Information Technology or related field from a recognized post-secondary institution, along with three (3) years related experience in a large complex enterprise wide MAN/LAN routing/switching networks with diverse solutions from multiple vendors. Extensive experience in deployment, configuration, optimization, testing and administration of LAN/MAN/WAN/WLAN infrastructures including controllers, firewalls, access points, switching and routing techniques and other related hardware and software will be required. Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification is an asset. Proven experience in project and contract administration within an enterprise level IM/IT environment is an asset. Exposure to satellite network communications is an asset. Current vendor certifications where the GN has standardized on manufacturers such as Cisco, CCNA Wireless, CWNA, IEEE, WCET or other certifications will be considered an asset. This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
