At Education & Early Childhood Development (EECD) we ensure children in their early years have the support they need for a positive start to school; students in pre-primary to grade 12 receive a quality education, preparing them for what lies ahead; and we work with schools, teachers and others to increase overall student achievement and success.


EECD is working to build an integrated early years system throughout the province that will provide more accessible and comprehensive support for young children and their families.

About Our Opportunity


As the secretary you are the primary contact for the divisions, supporting the Director of Policy and Planning, and their team, as well as the Director of Research, Analytics, and Information Management. In the role you act as a liaison for staff, other government departments (federal, provincial, territorial, and municipal), as well as external stakeholders, in a highly confidential environment. You will utilize project tracking organizational administrative skills to determine deadlines outlined in Project, Business and Education action plans.


This position reports to the Director.

Primary Accountabilities


In performing the duties of the position, you will:

  • Contribute to the development of administrative work standards.
  • Maintain filing and retrieval systems, keeping manuals and reference materials current.
  • Compose correspondence on behalf of the Directors.
  • Develop and prepare professional presentations and reports on behalf of the Directors.
  • Update information for the EECD Website, Business Plan, and Accountability Framework.
  • Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, accurate minutes/notes, ensuring senior leadership decisions are recorded responsibly and in a timely fashion.
  • Responsible for greeting and directing visitors of the division.
  • Assist with the coordination of the divisions’ budgets, divisional financial transactions ensuring proper financial procedures are followed.

Qualifications and Experience


To be successful in the secretary position, you will have a one-year business course and three years of related experience (such as administrative support/secretarial). An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.


You are a self-motivated individual who works well independently, and participates fully in a team environment, you value the concepts of equity, diversity, and inclusion to all areas of your work.


You possess excellent grammar, proofreading, editing, and secretarial skills, as well as demonstrate proficiency in the Microsoft Suite, including web-based sharing software such as Moodle and Google docs. You have strong initiative and good judgement while planning work according to priorities and deadlines. Organization and time management skills are essential to this role. You can exercise professional discretion, establish effective working relationships, confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.

  • Experience in budget management

Pay Grade: CL 18

Salary Range: $1,579.09 - $1,766.79 Bi-Weekly
