POSITION SUMMARY:

The Community Connections Facilitator will responsible for the implementation of the program curriculum, ensuring a quality experience for all participants as part of the MCC’s LOW Programs for Newcomers to Canada as funded by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

QUALIFICATONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma and/or degree in related field of study (ie Human Services, Education, Child Youth Worker, Communication) and/or relevant experience.
  • Past experience in implementing and facilitating educational, recreational or social programming an asset.

Considerable knowledge and experience with issues related to diverse populations and youth.

  • Administrative, networking, planning, facilitation, written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Superior interpersonal and relationship management skills supported by excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Sensitivity to working with culturally, economically, and electronically diverse populations
  • Creative, passionate and energetic individual
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office is a must.
  • Previous experience working in Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada funded programming is an asset.
  • Previous experience working with iCARE, HARTs and/or OCMS databases is an asset.
  • Must possess a valid Level 3 vulnerable sector police clearance, renewed every 3 years

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

GENERAL

  • Execute the developed Community Connections programming curriculums (may include but not limited to school age children, youth, adults and seniors programming) engaging participants in activities that are both fun and supportive of their settlement and integration needs.
  • Assist the participants as needed with any learning needs, particularly with Language Training, Employment, Post-Secondary pathways and school work (as applicable)
  • Observe, monitor and participate in Community Connections activities (may include but not limited to Newcomer Youth Homework Club, Rotary Leadership, Youth Employment, Conversation Circles (Lunch N’ Learn and others), Women’s Group (Sewing Circle), Youth Drop-In, School Age Children Summer Camp, etc).
  • Provide mentorship support for participants as required.
  • Prepare healthy snacks for participants as per program guidelines, accommodating dietary restrictions as needed.
  • Tidying up of facility each day after the end of the program, ensuring that all equipment is stored away properly.
  • Foster the academic, emotional, and social development of the participants as needed.
  • Assist in the development of a safe and healthy learning environment for all participants.
  • Develop and implement training and workshop materials/activities along with assessment and evaluation tools.
  • Purchasing of materials and supplies for programming as required and submitting appropriate documentation for reimbursement in a timely manner
  • Assisting with maintaining accurate records monitoring the process and evaluation of the outcomes.
  • Facilitate group and volunteer sessions and training sessions and maintain accurate records of attendance.
  • Liaise with the immediate supervisor to keep them up to date with all issues and concerns with the program.
  • Provide general administrative and clerical support to the Community Connections Supervisor which may include entry into databases such as OCMS and iCARE.
  • Attend professional development opportunities as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • **NOTE: Due to COVID, several of the tasks and responsibilities may be handled digitally online while working from home. While staff are working in-office, sickness and/or provincial regulations may require a hybrid model of online and in-person program & service delivery
