About Our Opportunity


The Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic person to add to its Business Development team. Reporting to the Director Business Development, Project Manager work strategically to promote and grow the Nova Scotian seafood economy.

Primary Accountabilities


As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing project management for multiple market development activities simultaneously such as: industry networking events/receptions, product showcases, retail, food service and e-commerce promotions
  • Leading the planning, development and implementation of targeted market development initiatives and promote business and market opportunities for Nova Scotia seafood companies and their related products in domestic and international priority markets.
  • Leading the development of outbound international Ministerial activities including the development of the strategic agenda(s)/programs and related briefing notes and mission reports.
  • Continually developing, enhancing and expanding networks with domestic and international business contacts, federal and provincial government trade officials, industry associations and development organizations to secure marketing and product opportunity leads and related information to advance Departmental priorities.
  • Preparing information notes, letters and responses as required by management.

May perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience


You have a bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as Commerce etc.) or equivalent and 8 years of related trade experience; or a related master’s and 6 years of trade related experience. Must have experience working in international markets, ideally Asia and/or Europe.


Additionally:

  • You have a sound knowledge of the Nova Scotia seafood industry, the business climate domestically and internationally as well as experience evaluating international market trends and providing support to strategic market development plans. You possess excellent research and analytical skills as they relate to defining international market development opportunities.
  • Proven experience managing a project end to end. The Manager Business Development must display strong project management skills, along with tact and diplomacy. The nature of the initiatives can result in last minute changes in meetings and events, requiring the ability to rework agendas and events yet still achieve the desired outcomes for events and missions.
  • Experience organizing and delivering food promotion events.
  • You are an excellent communicator who is skilled in public speaking and building strong relationships with stakeholders across various cultures. You will also have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to work within a collaborative and creative team environment and be willing to put forward ideas and suggestions that are innovative.
  • You have experience providing advice and developing recommendations to senior leadership, including the preparation of information, and briefing notes, data and written reports, and presentations.

Additional Information


Based in Halifax, the Manager Business Development position will be a hybrid working arrangement, with 3 days working in our office located in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

This position may require travel within the province, Canada, and international markets. A valid driver’s license, and passport is required.

Pay Grade: EC 12

Salary Range: $3,458.20 - $4,322.75 Bi-Weekly
