This posting is to fill a permanent full time position and may also be used to fill other Manager positions within Family and Children's Services.

The Family and Children’s Services Branch is seeking an individual who excels at building, fostering and managing collaborative and cooperative working relationships. The ideal candidate is a skilled influencer and a proactive problem solver who has demonstrated integrity and authenticity. The ideal candidate can negotiate and resolve conflict; looks at innovative means to accomplish goals and has strong decision making abilities. This individual is a role model with the ability to motivate, mentor and coach a high functioning, diverse team.


The Manager, Family Services is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of services to children, youth and families, by planning, managing and controlling the development, implementation, delivery, coordination, and evaluation of services, programs, policies in the areas of child protection, children in care, family services, youth transitional services, and extended family care within the Yukon. The effective delivery of 24-hour child protection programs and services is also ensured by providing professional and developmental leadership to unit supervisors, and by managing the unit’s financial, personnel and administrative functions. The incumbent also provides consultant services to the Branch and/or Department corporate functions (policy, finance, IT and human resources) to ensure the development of new or revised programs and functions to meet needs of children and families.

Essential Qualifications:

Note that selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Bachelor of Social Work with preference to those with a Master’s of Social Work;
  • Experience at the management level, in change management, in developing, implementing and managing a range of social service programs with a preference to those that have child welfare and protection experience;
  • Considerable experience managing human and financial resources in a social services setting;
  • Experience in negotiating working protocols or partnerships with First Nations; and,
  • Considerable experience collaborating with various stakeholders and collaterals on joint initiatives and service delivery.

Conditions of Employment: Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector; valid Yukon Class 5 Driver’s Licence or Equivalent, Verification of Degree.

Job Requirements: Travel and work in both formal and informal work environments within Yukon and outside of territory.
