POSITION SUMMARY

Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.

The Sergeant-at-Arms department is seeking a collaborative, customer service and detail oriented individual for the regular full-time position of Security Scanning Supervisor.

Reporting to the Deputy Sergeant-at-Arms, the Security Scanning Supervisor is responsible for administering the Legislative Precinct courier and mail services to Members of the Legislative Assembly, support staff, caucuses and Legislative Assembly managers and employees, administering the Legislative Precinct entry screening on all persons visiting the Legislative Assembly, and supervising and initiating mail procedures and entry screening, ensuring the safety of all persons in the Parliament Buildings.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have:

  • Completed grade 12 and have several years’ administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in communicating effectively and interacting in a tactful, professional and courteous manner with various office staff and the public.
  • Supervisory experience.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience in a mail room.
  • Experience with explosive device detection and interpretation.
  • Experience in the use of x-ray machines and metal detector portals and wands.
  • Explosive device recognition training.
