The Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation located in Old Crow, Yukon is filled with boundless pride in their ancient cultural heritage and ancestral homelands. Old Crow is a small, fly-in community of about 300 people located in North Yukon.

The Vuntut Gwitchin Government (VGG) is the governing body of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation who secured the rights to self-government in 1993.


Old Crow is known for its long summer days! You will appreciate the breathtaking wilderness of the Yukon, abundant natural resources and friendly citizens that reside there. Air travel to the rest of the Yukon and Northwest Territories is possible several times a week.


Preference is to have candidates live in Old Crow, however the option for the ideal candidate to live in Whitehorse with bi-monthly trips to Old Crow will be considered.


The VGG is seeking a Human Resources Director to create and execute human resources strategies and activities to support the VGG vision, mission, values, philosophies, strategies and objectives.


Reporting to the Corporate Services Strategic Lead, the Director will serve as a catalyst to bring to life VGG’s vision of fostering an engaged and positive workplace culture while integrating inclusion, transformation, and resilience strategies into VGG’s culture.


Working with a small team, the Director will take a person-focused approach to building culture, employee engagement, and developing service-oriented programs and processes.


As the ideal candidate, you are an experienced human resources generalist who balances empathy and pragmatism while delivering on organizational priorities. You are forward looking and hands-on with the ability to inform and engage employees. You have experience leading small, agile HR teams to meet the evolving needs and priorities of the organization. You embrace change and growth, are comfortable with ambiguity and possess the acuity to remain responsible and flexible to the demands of competing priorities.


With knowledge of and/or experience with the indigenous community you will enjoy building relationships with key stakeholders and members of the community. Your experience has been grounded with a degree in human resources or business administration and CPHR designation with 8+ years of progressive human resources experience including several years in a supervisory role.
