GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Technical Advisor (Farm) is responsible for providing in-house farm machinery repair expertise and consultation on claims to assist in quantifying damages and repair costs. In this role, you will conduct site visits; prepare and/or review repair estimates; and provide technical advice, training, and support to adjusters on complex farm machinery claims. The Technical Advisor (Farm) provides technical advice and guidance to all levels of employees.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Inspections & Consulting

  • Conducts site visits to farms or repair vendors to determine the scope of the damage or loss.

  • Inspects and analyzes damaged, farm machinery, equipment and failed mechanical components to establish cause.

  • Writes detailed reports outlining the results of investigations and provide input on the repair value and provides information to assist adjusters adjudicating the claim.

  • Determines the scope of loss, evaluates and audits vendor damage appraisals for accuracy and provides input to adjusters on repair approvals for replacement cost, wear and tear, depreciation, etc.

  • Disassemble and reassemble components for the inspection process.

  • Research information related to equipment issue and consult with industry experts.

  • Represents the interests of the corporation in Small Claims Court, the Rates Appeal Board, and/or other judicial, legal, institutional, or regulatory groups or bodies.

  • Determines contractor to use for repairs. Directs contractors on what specific repairs are to be made. Addresses issues with invoices or quality of work.

Training and Reporting

  • Identifies, develops, and provides training and coaching to adjusters on farm machinery losses, repair methods, estimate creations (written and electronic) and cost control methods.

  • Provides farm machinery repair appraisal expertise, technical advice, and support to adjusters on claim files and in meetings with customers, brokers, contractors, and vendors.

  • Meets regularly with designated farm adjusters to build expertise, promote knowledge sharing and leverage learning and experiences. Provides feedback to manager on quality of work.

  • Prepares and completes a claim assignment form on each file to determine, track and evaluate the outcome of their file involvement.

  • Prepares periodic reporting and analysis on inspection and estimating activity for file and record purposes.

  • Provides advice on, analysis of, and interpretation of, their forms, reports, and data to others within SGI on a periodic basis.

Knowledge and Skill

  • Advanced knowledge of the operation, repair, maintenance and market and repair costs of farm machinery.

  • Advanced knowledge of the heavy-duty mechanic trade.

  • Advanced knowledge of fire investigation techniques.

Education and Experience

  • An Agricultural Equipment Technician or Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Journeyperson certificate from an accredited post-secondary education institution.

  • 7 years’ experience in the agriculture machinery repair industry.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Travel is required to claims centres and loss sites to perform inspections and other job duties.

This position has been market adjuster to Pay Band 13 ($66,696 - $86,052) effective until March 31, 2022 at which time it will be reviewed.

Pay Range:$62,916.00 - $78,648.00
