The Opportunity:

You will work closely with the Manager of Health Communications and Engagement to lead communications and community relations activities, including the development of communications plans, key messages, presentations, digital assets, promotional materials, and outreach.

As the Specialist, Health Communications you will assist Divisions/teams with content development and execution to provide consistent, targeted, impactful messaging and engagement. You will review messaging and provide advice/expertise when necessary.

You will have the opportunity to work with various community partners to elevate the work of Public Health and partners.


Bring your experience:

To be successful in this role you will have experience developing presentations, promotional material, social media plans/strategies, and outreach activities.

Experience providing training materials for new staff.

Coordinating and participating in outreach and promotion events and meetings.

Apply Your Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and skill normally acquired through an undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field, plus related, progressively responsible experience in a public relations or communications environment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, corporate communications standards, and related legislation (e.g., privacy, accessibility).
  • Knowledge of the regional political structure; political and topical issues related to public health; and corporate and department standards.
  • Analytical, organizational, and continuous improvement skills to interpret and apply policies to own and others’ work; work independently and on project teams; plan/prioritize work; analyze communication and customer service issues; consider multiple factors and perspectives when examining issues for potential implications and opportunities; and deal with changing priorities, interruptions, deadlines, and peaks.
  • Human relations and public speaking skills to work with departmental teams on communications projects; provide expertise to management regarding communications rollouts; and participate as an effective team member within an interdisciplinary setting.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and summarize media accounts, newsletters, journals, training manuals, reports, and legislation. Ability to compose and edit media releases, press kits, public service announcements, speeches, articles, brochures, and newsletters according to audience and using plain language principles.

The salary of this position ranges between $69,251.00 - $86,541.00 per annum (Grade 4 on the Management & Management Support wage grid).
