The City of Summerside is looking for an eager engineer starting their career to be part of our team to grow our electric utility and assist in its reliability and security. This is a responsible position providing engineering support services for various City projects to Electrical Utility infrastructure. Work involves considerable contact with other municipal employees, contractors and the general public and could involve working irregular hours. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with these groups will be paramount.

Knowledge in basic surveying principles coupled with electric utility experience and the ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications would be an asset. The position will require basic computer skills as well as CAD and other electric utility software. Programming skills would be an asset.

The successful candidate must be able to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing, and will report directly to the Electrical Engineer. This position will assist with operational support through capital projects, distribution engineering design and construction for new developments utilizing engineering codes, methods, and standards, archiving of engineering and maintenance documents, assisting and using the Smart Grid and SCADA systems, and development of Summerside Electric overhead and underground distribution standards.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a recognized program in Canada, as well as/can attain Engineering Training status with the Association of Professional Engineers of PEI. Having electric utility work or co-op experience would be an asset, as well as supervisory control and data acquisition exposure for industrial applications and experience with various renewable energy systems.
