Job Summary
The Ontario Parasport Games and Ontario Summer Games are part of the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries Games Ontario Program. From May 13 – 15, 2022 (Parasport Games) and July 21 – 24, 2022 (Summer Games), Mississauga will welcome participants – including Ontario’s best athletes, sport assistants, coaches, and officials – from across Ontario to the City of Mississauga to compete in a variety of sport events. Events may include basketball, wheelchair basketball, hockey, sledge hockey, beach volleyball, sitting volleyball, among others.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Project Leader, Ontario Parasport Games and Ontario Summer Games, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Working with various departments and staff;
  • Working on and being a primary point of contact for projects pertaining to athlete services, sport, and venues;
  • Liaising with Games stakeholders;
  • Administering systems and managing processes in a manner which ensures that timelines are met;
  • Maintaining statistical and administrative information that will aid in decision making and operational planning;
  • Action policy changes and manage resource allocation for all Games venues;
  • Serve as a resource and liaison related to community affiliated groups/agencies for all Games related information;
  • Arrange appropriate planning and communication with sporting groups and stakeholders;
  • Assists other City staff in delivering the strategic plan related to their areas of responsibility;
  • Other duties as assigned, including logistical and administrative tasks.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Internship/co-op credit, degree or diploma in Sport Management, Business, Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field;
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in the sport industry, including event management, program development, operations, or equivalent educational experience in Sport Management, Business, Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the workings of and needs of multi-sport organizations (MSOs), Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs), and municipal government processes;
  • Strong planning, time management, problem solving, and organizational skills;
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to work in a team environment;
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter with excellent oral and written communications skills;
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and demonstrate conflict resolutions skills;
  • An understanding of sport technical requirements, operational planning, and event management;
  • Ability to work in a changing environment and an interest in broadening your experience are desired;
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Note: Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
