The Public Guardian and Trustee of Saskatchewan manages the financial and property interests of adults who are incapable of managing their own affairs; monitors other property guardians and investigates allegations of financial abuse of vulnerable persons; administers the estates of deceased persons and protects the interests of minors. The Public Guardian and Trustee services extend to clients’ resident throughout the province.

The Public Guardian and Trustee is seeking a confident, ethical and well-organized individual for an interesting and challenging Field Investigator position.

This position will be responsible for conducting initial investigations for new clients; identifying, securing, and valuing client assets which may include real property, personal property, and commodities such as grain and cattle; researching real property values; arranging for real property to be sold by auction, tender or by realtor; assisting with client moves; arranging for the storage and/or sale of personal property items; communicating to and confirming with Trust Officers that their instructions were followed and tasks were completed; and documenting all work completed.

Our candidate of choice will have outstanding organizational, communication, research, and interpersonal skills in order to develop effective working relationships with clients, their dependents, stakeholders, staff members, and the general public. You will be required to engage with individuals who may be confused, resistant, have mental health illnesses or addictions.

The successful candidate will be financially literate. Knowledge of investigative techniques and basic accounting principles and practices would be an asset.

You will utilize your research skills in order to gather, compile and analyze information and prepare various documents and reports. You will be required to travel throughout the province and be able to work field hours. You will also need a valid Saskatchewan Driver’s License and a PAL license in order to be able to transport firearms.

Properties that you may be required to assess could contain rodents, various types of insects, and be extremely unhygienic.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through a degree in Human Justice, Administration, or Commerce, or a certificate in a similar course of study supplemented with relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A background in farming would be considered a significant asset for this position. This would include experience with farmland leases and selling of farm land and/or equipment via tender or auction.
