Full Description

Located in the internationally recognized mountain resort town of Whistler, B.C., Pique Newsmagazine is the unequivocal leader in reporting, interpreting and understanding the culture of the Coast Mountains and what it means to those who live, work and play in Whistler.
At 27 years young, we’ve established ourselves as the locals’ publication that’s inquisitive and edgy, provoking conversation and building community. With our peers we’re acknowledged perennial winners at the BC & Yukon Community Newsmedia Awards (BCYCNA) and Canadian Community Newsmedia Awards (CCNA) for general excellence and reporting categories, as well as several Webster Awards honours over the years.
We’re known for our unique artsy design, weekly long-form features and comprehensive news coverage, but of course our reach is global, with loyal readers from Vancouver, Seattle, Toronto, Hong Kong and all over the world who come to piquenewsmagazine.com daily for the best Whistler storytelling and news source.
The Editor
This role is a rare opportunity for a committed, experienced Journalist and Editor who’s ready to jump in and lead one of Canada’s best community newsrooms. The mission is to engage and grow our loyal audience with care and concern for our community.
You will manage and mentor a seasoned but youthful team of five reporters as well as several freelancers, feature writers and columnists. You will be able to copyedit to CP Style (you will copy edit about 30,000 words a week).
You will drive the news, assigning breaking and investigative news every day. You will learn how the major players in the resort—local government, Whistler Blackcomb, Tourism Whistler, business operators and First Nations—connect, allowing you to predict what stories are important for the community to understand.
You will have a keen sense of news and use it to scour and share stories from/with our media partners that will captivate, inform and even entertain our users online. You will be able to use Twitter and Facebook effortlessly to grow engagement and be able to construct Instagram stories with ease. You will be open to the new digital world, engaging with like-minded Editors across Glacier’s newsrooms to learn about new developments, which you will share with your news team and educate them on.
Is this the right fit?
You have a deep belief in the importance of good journalism and contextual reporting, and value connection with our readers through all of our various platforms: print, digital and social.
You value our reputation while recognizing the opportunity to improve, evolve and flourish in a changing media landscape.
You are a demonstrated leader who naturally garners respect because you’re also a team player, keen to work with Pique’s creative and award winning graphics department and dedicated sales team, who believe in the importance of the news business moving forward.
You embrace mountain culture and what Whistler has to offer, whether you’re already here or looking to make this town home.
