Bi-Weekly Hours: 75.0 hours bi-weekly (Commencing Immediately)The PEI Department of Finance and Treasury Board Secretariat aims to encourage the development of an innovative, diverse and inclusive workforce which enables the organization to realize its goals. Reporting to the Print Production Coordinator of the Document Publishing Centre, the Digital Press Operator is responsible for the efficient operation of various digital printing presses and related software to produce printed materials required by legislation and necessary for the daily operation and communication of government programs and services. Maintains quality standards in a fast-paced environment as part of the team that provides internal printing services.Duties include: - Operate digital colour and Black/White printing presses to produce print orders for internal government customers; - Calibrating colour printers on prescribed maintenance schedule, and at other times as necessary; - Reviewing pending print orders and prioritizing by urgency, type, colour, complexity etc;- Accurately interpreting job specifications from the Avanti (print shop management software) work order to determine final output requirements (quantity, size, paper selection, imposition, format– booklet; stapled set; stacked or collated set; binding and finishing and expected delivery date, etc.);- Retrieving artwork files from appropriate server location and matching them to work orders;- canning hard copy originals if necessary when electronic files are not available (i.e. financial statements);- Printing a proof of the artwork file for client approval. Noting job id # and proofing date in Avanti and on the work order;- Ensuring the quality of the finished printed materials meets or exceeds department and customer standards;- Handling PDF files and preparing documents for printing using workflow software that integrates with the print server and workstation software to set job properties such as page commands, tab programming, image imposition, etc;- Using workflow software and printer user interface to program job requirements such as stock selection, simplex/duplex pages, exception pages, section dividers, tabs, slip sheets, recoverable sets, etc.;- Troubleshooting equipment problems in the event of such things as sub-standard print quality, equipment operation failure, error messages, fault codes; and other duties as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: - Post-secondary diploma in a printing technology or computer technology related program and considerable related work experience or high school diploma with extensive work experience in a print environment operating digital press equipment;- Demonstrated equivalencies may be considered;- Vendor training and demonstrated experience operating digital press equipment;- Demonstrated experience in the use of print and inventory management software programs;- Familiarity with print production processes, print shop workflow and printing terminology;- Knowledge of paper types, bindery processes, materials and finishing techniques used in the print shop environment;- Working knowledge in computer operations, software and web applications including Microsoft Office, web-based FTP, original equipment manufacturer workflow software and print management software such as Avanti;- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment;- Must be detail-oriented and have a good previous work and attendance record;- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check prior to beginning employment.Other Qualifications: - Experience in the set up and operation of print shop bindery equipment would be an assetPlease Note: Please ensure the application clearly demonstrates how you meet the noted qualifications as applicants will be screened based on the information provided.
