There is currently one temporary appointment which will be 12 months in duration. It may be extended or become permanent.

The Ministry of Health has overall responsibility for ensuring that quality, appropriate, cost-effective and timely health services are available to all British Columbians. Within the Ministry of Health, the Population and Public Health Division’s goals focus on improving people’s overall health and well-being by promoting health; preventing disease, disability, and injury; protecting them from harm; and assisting them to acquire the self-care and self-management skills they need. The intent of these actions is to promote a healthier population, and reduce current and future demands on the health care system.

The Population and Public Health Division provides stewardship for population and public health in the areas of women’s, children and youth health; Aboriginal health; health protection; healthy living; chronic disease and injury prevention; communicable disease prevention and control, prevention of problematic substance use, and infection control.

The Health Protection Branch (HPB) provides leadership and expertise to develop programs and policies that promote community environmental health, to prevent disease and protect people from harm from environmental stressors. The Health Protection Branch safeguards the population by developing legislative and regulatory requirements for the prevention and reduction of risk of harms including emerging pathogens, food safety, air and water quality, and environmental contamination. HPB administers several pieces of legislation including the Drinking Water Protection Act, the Food Safety Act and the Public Health Act. Physical, chemical and biological human health risks are monitored and assessed. Through collaborative partnerships with the Office of the Provincial Health Officer, BC Centre for Disease Control, regional health authorities, other ministries and levels of government, industry and nongovernmental associations, solutions are developed to minimize and manage risks to human health.

In this role you will provide project management support services throughout the project management life-cycle (i.e. initiation, planning, execution, control and close-out) in consultation with project managers and client managers.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
  • Completion of courses in project management.
  • 2 or more years experience project management
  • Experience typing, formatting, proofreading and editing a variety of documents and materials using desktop tools such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience providing project management support services
  • Experience managing an electronic calendar (booking meetings and appointments).

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Project management experience obtained working in the public policy cycle (research, policy network engagement)
  • Experience with MS Project or other project management software applications.
