Addictions Counsellor I - Blomidon Place
Mental Health and Addictions, Corner Brook, NL
DUTIES: Performs professional counselling in addictions to children impacted by addictions, youth presenting with substance abuse/gambling issues and their families. Conducting counselling and casework with children, youth and their families through individual, family, and group therapy on an outpatient basis including comprehensive assessment, early intervention, treatment and follow-up in the context of a child/youth mental health and addictions team setting. Provides referral and follow-up services for children and youth to outside agencies both within and outside the Province. Assists clients with various community groups to provide and obtain information to provide an integrated case evaluation. Accepts referrals from various services and provides necessary liaison pertaining to treatment plan and follow-up. Prevention programming delivered from a population health approach. This position may provide travelling clinics in the region.
QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of professional counselling, assessment, and case evaluation techniques in the area of addictions with specific knowledge of techniques in the area of child and adolescent treatment. Candidates must have proven ability in the areas of treatment plan development, problem solving, early intervention strategies, follow-up, and family counselling. Effective communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills are essential. The required knowledge and abilities would normally have been acquired through progressive experience in individual, group and family counselling in the area of addictions, with specific experience in the provision of prevention and education to children and youth in relationship to counselling. A Masters Degree of Social Work preferred; a Bachelor of Social Work required; or a Masters Degree of Clinical Psychology, or a Graduate Degree in a clinical discipline with experience in an addictions setting is required. Candidates must be eligible for registration within their profession. A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
