Collectively, the Communications team oversees the development of internal and external communications strategies that support our annual business plans. We need an accomplished leader in government and stakeholder relations to join us as we support several strategic initiatives aimed at elevating experiences at YYC. WHAT YOU WILL DO

Reporting to the Director, Communications & Stakeholder Engagement, you will play a key role in articulating the airport’s value to the region, while managing and cultivating the Authority’s corporate reputation by building relationships and developing strategies that engage audiences and improve their understanding and support of the airport’s mandate and North Star vision.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Identify opportunities to advance the Authority’s brand, North Star and strategic plan through engagement strategies and public relations programs.
  • Oversee and develop strategies and metrics that deepen relationships with internal and external stakeholders and strengthen pride in the airport with Calgarians.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with external stakeholders including industry, government, business associations, and local community associations.
  • Develop and implement community engagement plans that educate the public on the YYC’s overall purpose and various initiatives/programs including the West Runway Project and YYC’S Sustainability initiative.
  • Research policy and develop recommendations for advancing YYC’s corporate and legislative interests by promoting and maintaining vigorous participation in aviation policy.
  • Write and edit briefing material to support the ongoing government relations activities of the Authority, such as pre-budget submissions, grant applications, and backgrounders.
  • Act as an advisor to executive leadership and the Board of Directors by developing and executing strategic external communications plans related to labour relations, union bargaining and other high-profile situations.
  • Provide strategic communications counsel to the Executive Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and all levels of YYC.
  • Support external facing teams by providing expertise, planning, and guiding key messaging.
  • Respond to media inquiries and act an Authority spokesperson as required.
  • Provide training and coaching to senior leaders and subject matter spokespeople as required.
  • Write executive speeches and create presentations for external and internal facing events, while ensuring communications objectives and brand experience standards are met.
  • Evaluate existing communications processes and tools for crisis and emergency and make recommendations for change.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning activities related to crisis and emergency communications response.
  • Manage the crisis communications on-call schedule.
  • Be available and respond in emergency situations. Duties and responsibilities will include communication updates to internal and external audiences as the corporate spokesperson and/or Public Information Officer (PIO).
  • Manage the ongoing activities of the Airport Community Consultative Committee (ACCC).
  • Advise communications perspective on committees and participating in conversations regarding the airport community.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Communications, Public Relations, Public Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in communications leadership roles and experience in media relations, community, and government relations.
  • Proven ability to create, communicate and inspire a vision, set and achieve objectives.
  • Keen attention to detail with the ability to lead complex projects and priorities with a calm, focused and flexible attitude, embracing and leading change.
  • Solutions-focused with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a natural ability to build collaborative relationships across a broad group of external stakeholders and internal business partners.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with a clear and concise writing style.
  • Highly attuned business/industry acumen and local community awareness.

WHAT ELSE?

  • Working knowledge of French in a business environment is an asset.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a restricted area identification card (RAIC).
  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work model with a combination of in-office and remote work.
