The Opportunity:
The Downtown Revitalization Coordinator provides quality program and value management to achieve the initiatives of Our Core Strategy (Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan) to improve the downtown area. Emphasis will be placed on areas of economic development, downtown revitalization, community engagement, investor relations and development. The Downtown Coordinator works with a cross-functional team of City staff responsible for creating and managing programs and projects that meet the objectives of Our Core Strategy. This position will lead efforts to build a destination in downtown Airdrie through creative placemaking, public realm enhancements, technology and innovation and brand/promotional expansion.

Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborate with a cross-corporate team to lead the transformation of Airdrie’s downtown, encouraging private investment and development and promoting Airdrie’s future downtown to businesses, residents, investors and visitors. Serve as the central contact for downtown revitalization and act as the administrative lead on municipal action items
  • Provide downtown revitalization advice and support to internal clients especially within the areas of planning & development, economic development, corporate communications, building inspections, engineering services and land administration
  • Develop an annual work plan for downtown revitalization and the Community Revitalization Levy (CRL) in alignment with the economic development Priority Ownership Team (POT)
  • Work with Council, staff, business owners and stakeholders to develop strategies to increase opportunities for the downtown and maintain contact with community leaders and representatives of businesses, industry and non-profit agencies
  • Work collaboratively to organize program activities in the areas of design, promotion, economic prosperity and partnership development
  • Liaise and work closely with the Downtown Economic Development Officer (EDO) in developing and implementing economic strategies that emphasize business attraction/retention
  • Act as the Administrative Liaison to internal boards and committees, prepare reports and presentations as required
  • Provide subject matter expertise to leadership during the preparation and execution of business plans and operating and capital budgets that align with Council Focus Areas (i.e., Priority Ownership Teams) and other corporate objectives while leveraging private investments where possible to further fulfill the mandate
  • Represent the City with other orders of government to leverage and amplify City investments and strategies in the Greater Downtown Area
  • Explore regulatory initiatives (Land Use Bylaw, policies) including approvals, to encourage development enabling regulatory improvements
You Bring:
  • University Degree in planning, marketing, public relations, business or related field
  • Planning and/or economic development certification considered an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a combination of planning and/or development, economic development, business development, client relationship management, or program management
  • Experience in downtown revitalization and redevelopment
  • Knowledge of Airdrie and its business community
  • Experience leading teams on projects through to completion
  • Knowledge of placemaking/place activation principles/strategies
  • Experience developing and implementing programs that have achieved set outcomes and managing program budget
  • Negotiating skills and techniques; consensus building skills
  • Event planning and public relations experience is considered an asset
  • High standard of thoroughness, accuracy and attention to detail
  • A proven track record of on-time delivery on customer expectations, planning, organizing and scheduling work to successfully meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders in a tactful and professional manner
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and form collaborative relationships
  • Aptitude for collecting, maintaining and analyzing data
  • Ability to handle a variety of projects/tasks with competing priorities in a result-based environment
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to groups, senior leaders and Council

Additional Information:
This full time (37.5 hours per week) position includes a comprehensive benefits and pension package.
