About Us

The Ministry of Health sets policy and direction to improve health outcomes for all Albertans, support the well-being and independence of Albertans, and achieve a high quality, appropriate, accountable and sustainable health system.

As a part of the Continuing Care Division, the Continuing Care Branch is responsible for the development of provincial policy and legislation for continuing care (home care, supportive living and long-term care). Our division is leading a number of key high-priority initiatives within the Ministry of Health including activities to transform continuing care. Our division works closely with Alberta Health Services, other ministries, clients and families and other health and service delivery stakeholders in planning and implementing continuing care programs and initiatives.

Role

Do you have a continuing care background and want to use your expertise to help contribute to the development and implementation of initiatives that will improve the lives of Albertans? Do you want to move Alberta’s continuing care system forward? If so, we are looking for three new team members, and the Continuing Care Branch would like to speak with you!

As one of three new Clinical Advisors within the Continuing Care Branch, you will provide clinical expertise, strategic advice and project management in the development and implementation of provincial-level policies, legislation and projects.

One advisor’s immediate focus will be to lead projects related to the development of new staffing models for continuing care homes and improving the quality of work life for continuing care staff.

A second advisor’s immediate focus will be to lead the development and implementation of program and policy changes, including standards and initiatives designed to improve quality of life and care of continuing care home residents. This advisor will also address emerging issues including (but not only) COVID-19 and emerging new variants of concern in continuing care.

A third advisor’s immediate focus will be to assist in the implementation of the Home Care Path Forward (HCPF) Strategic Plan that provides a roadmap for enhancing home care to enable a greater proportion of continuing care clients to remain at home, as they age.

With your extensive clinical background, regardless of role, you will contribute to evidence-informed policy options and recommendations. Using your diplomacy and high-level written and verbal communication skills, you will interact and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on a variety of current and emerging issues. To be successful in this role you will need work under pressure and provide critical analysis that can then be synthesized into sound policy direction and recommendations. You will also have a depth of clinical and continuing care specific knowledge (home care, supportive living and long-term care) and experience.
