This posting is to hire a permanent full-time (75 hours) Foster Care Social Worker.


The Department of Health and Social Services aims to promote, protect and enhance the well-being of Yukon people through a continuum of quality, accessible and appropriate health and social services.

The Family and Children’s Services Branch promotes and develops the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth while supporting healthy child and family development to maximize the potential of every child in the Yukon. The Branch is responsible for territory-wide delivery of services and programs that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families.

As a Foster Care Social Worker, you are responsible for managing a specialized foster care caseload, conducting assessments, providing counseling and developing foster care plans. You will provide the provision of casework and counseling services in the areas of child protection and family services and provide consultation services to regional staff as well.

Essential Qualification

  • Bachelor Degree in Social Work
  • Experience working with children and families in the area of child welfare and foster care services
  • Experience providing family assessments, counseling and crisis interventions, as well as providing support services to families and children
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural environment

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Suitability

Candidates should have and maybe assessed on:

  • Ability to conduct comprehensive family assessments
  • Ability to conduct quality of care reviews in foster homes
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
