Your Opportunity:

The Director of Surgery South Zone, working in close partnership with medical leadership, is accountable for the planning and delivery of high quality, accessible, sustainable, patient and family focused care for Surgical Services at Chinook Regional Hospital and Medicine Hat Regional Hospital in the South Zone. As a program leader, the Director is accountable for the overall strategic implementation and operational planning for the Surgery Program, ensuring the alignment with provincial program strategies and the South Zone strategic and operational plans. This includes developing and implementing program plans, ensuring the effective deployment of resources, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and developing collaborative relationships with South Zone sites and provincial programs. As a zone program leader, the Director is expected to work collaboratively with other zone leaders to ensure programs are integrated and focused on improving patient care. The Director will also work with provincial teams and SCNs (where applicable), to influence and inform provincial strategy development, implementation and integration.

Description:

In partnership with medical leadership, participate in strategic and operational planning and lead the operations of the Surgery program; Inform the development of the South Zone strategic plan and contribute to the development of zone-wide operational plans that support patient and family-focused, integrated care programs and delivery, as outlined in the AHS Health Plan and Business Plan. Lead the implementation and evaluation of a zone-wide program plan for the Surgery Program. Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of overarching AHS clinical policies and procedures for the Surgery program. Foster innovation, integration and consistency of patient and family focused, integrated care by establishing and maintaining strong relationships with other program directors and senior leaders, both within the South Zone, across AHS and with community and academic partners. Ensure the effective deployment of human resources, and create a safe, healthy and inclusive workplace for employees. Ensure the appropriate allocation of fiscal and capital resources across the area of accountability, and manage and report on the operating budget, including budget forecasting and expenditure monitoring in accordance with established AHS policies and practices. Collaborate with other program and site leaders in the zone to ensure the effective integration of applicable programs. Lead improvement initiatives, in accordance with the program plan, to improve the overall clinical operations within the Surgery program within the South Zone. Develop and manage external health service contracts for the Surgery program. Develop and maintain zone and affiliate provincial program relationships both within the South Zone, across AHS and with external stakeholders related to the surgical program area.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of post-secondary education in a health profession. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Progressive leadership experience in a healthcare environment, including a minimum of three years’ experience in a management role in clinical services or health care operations for the assigned program(s), in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Demonstrated record of achievement as a manager, including extensive experience in improvement and innovation of services provided in a diverse clinical setting. Practical experience in strategy, policy development, project and program management. Uses strategic thinking, taking into account long-term goals assessing options and implications. Demonstrated ability to lead change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources within a complex environment. Strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation and commitment to providing long-term quality services. Experience in collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within a large, diverse organization and managing within a unionized environment. Preferred Qualifications:

Related graduate bachelor’s or master’s degree in a health discipline preferred. Registration with an Alberta Regulated Health Profession preferred. Clinical contract management experience is an asset.
