The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Energy and Environment, this role is responsible for the facilitation, project management, and tracking of actions related to climate change throughout the corporation. Specifically, this involves either leading, or advising other business units on the implementation and integration of climate change mitigation and adaptation into various Town processes, business and strategic plans in order to meet the needs of the Council Declared climate emergency and endorsed target of net zero emissions by 2050. As the Specialist, Energy and Environment, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
- Responsible for the implementation of the Town’s energy conservation and demand management program as mandated by the province. This includes, managing the Town’s Energy Revolving Fund/Energy Reserve to fund projects, managing the Town’s energy procurement program including maintenance of the Town’s energy management software and forecasting utility budgets, facilitating and advising the corporate energy team on annual energy management priorities and capital projects, and undertaking energy modeling to measure results.
- Project manage the development and advise on the implementation of various strategies that focus on reducing corporate greenhouse gas emissions. This includes but not limited to Corporate Green Fleet Strategies, Corporate Green Building Standards and Waste Management strategies.
- Project manage studies related to long-term retrofit opportunities within corporate facilities to align with the goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050: as well as a corporate emissions modelling update
- Manage grant applications, energy incentives, respond to legislation changes.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a passionate professional with a post-secondary degree in Environmental Studies, Engineering, Climate Change or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate minimum 3 years of related experience facilitating environment, sustainability, climate change, or energy management strategies. RETScreen Expert Certification is considered an asset. Canadian Institute for Energy Training designations are also considered an asset.
The ideal candidate will have minimum 2 years’ experience working in a municipal government or public sector environment. We are seeking an individual with superior verbal and written communication skills, project management experience, and a demonstrated ability to advise on climate change mitigation and adaptation of assets and excellent ability to work under pressure of high volume and expectation.
The successful candidate for Specialist, Energy and Environment will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).
This position offers an hourly rate of $41.70, based on a 35-hour work week.
Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
