This posting is to fill casual Program Facilitator positions at the Youth Achievement Centre.
Reconciliation with Yukon First Nations: At the Youth Achievement Centre we commit to embracing the spirit of the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada entitled Honouring the Truth, Reconciling the Future, by conducting ourselves in our day-to-day business in a manner that embodies the purpose of reconciliation with our First Nations members in the Yukon. The Youth Achievement Centre is looking for a highly motivated, well organized, patient, understanding and committed individual to join our team of Program Facilitators. The Program Facilitator is responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of programs for youth involved with the Youth Criminal Justice System and youth in high risk situations age 12-18. As a member of our team, you have an understanding of the issues marginalized youth face and you have a genuine interest in working with youth at risk in an open, strength based, and trauma and culturally informed manner. You strive to promote positive change by exhibiting flexibility, and creativity while facilitating a variety of programs including recreation, life skills, tutoring, art, and vocational programs . This role serves to enhance the potential of our youth by providing a safe, structured, and engaging environment that promotes trust, respect and responsibility, and empowers young people to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for positive lifestyle choices.

Essential Qualifications

- Bachelor of Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Education, applicable Social Sciences Degree (Criminology, Psychology, Sociology) or a related field
- Experience facilitating programs for marginalized youth (12- 18 yrs) including program development & evaluation
- Experience implementing community based recreational, vocational, academic, art/culture or life skills programming
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be considered. Please submit a copy of your degree and/or diploma and/or educational transcripts.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability
Candidates should have and may be assessed on:
The successful candidate will be able to work within a team to facilitate the development, delivery and evaluation of the program while engaging and supervising youth in program activities. They will work with minimal supervision and in sensitive situations while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality. Conflict resolution skills and the ability to work in high conflict situations are required. The successful candidate we are looking for will have excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. Understanding of a trauma informed practice with awareness of reconciliation is important in this position.

Conditions of Employment: Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s license; Security clearance; CPR Level C, TB Screening
Job Requirements: Exposure to high risk conflict and sensitive situations, including potential for exposure to verbally and physically aggressive behaviour. Working indoors and outdoors in all weather and lifting weights of up to 50 lbs. when in programs i.e. recreational equipment, canoes, etc. Ability to facilitate and participate in a range of activities in all seasons. Some evening and overnight work will be required.
