The Town of Gander is currently accepting applications for a permanent full time Journeyperson
Carpenter within the Planning and Public Works Department.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Journeyperson Carpenter is a craftsman with an extensive skill and experience level, able to manage job sites with multiple employees and trade contractors. One who performs all carpentry functions required to maintain Town buildings and properties. The journeyperson carpenter also works on capital projects when required such as curbs, gutters, concrete sidewalks, and building facilities.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Ability to oversee projects to meet design standards and timelines associated with the project; Studies specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to determine materials required and dimensions of structure to be fabricated;
Prepare cost estimates; Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools; Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials; Design and builds stairs, shelving and furniture; Design, construct and oversee office and building renovations including installation of partitions, doors, windows; Installation, plastering and painting of drywall products; Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems; Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, molding and hardware; Designs and builds forms for pouring concrete curbs, sidewalks, access ramps, stairs, foundations, sewer construction projects and other structures; Offer leadership and guidance to apprentices and other team members;
Other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including ability to lift 50 lbs (22Kgs); Working indoors or outdoors in all types of weather; Work with and control pedestrian and vehicle traffic; Subject to call in or to remain on the job for emergencies; Exposed to elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes and oils; Hazards associated with trade; Physical dexterity required including walking, bending, kneeling and lifting etc.; Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, coordinate / plan work and function as part of a team; Exceptional customer service skills with a strong sense of public service and cooperation, and well developed abilities to deal with the public and citizens’ groups.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Completion of high school or equivalent; Valid Journeyperson Carpentry Certificate or equivalent with a minimum of three (3) years’ work experience; Valid Class 5 driver’s license, driver’s abstract is required; Certificate of Conduct;
Standard First Aid / CPR Certification; Experience and skill operating power tools and hand tools; Clear certificates of conduct including a RCMP Criminal Record Check and a Provincial Court Check, is a condition of employment.

Salary: $31.73/hour - 40 hours/week.
