N aq provides operation & maintenance services for the North Carolina Warning System (NWS). The NWS is a joint Canada-United States early warning radar system with 47 sites in northern Canada, a control center and support centre located in North Bay, ON and a Contract Management Office based in Ottawa, ON.


SCOPE:

We have several vacancies for Electrical Maintenance Technicians throughout all our locations in the North, located in NT, NL and AB.

This position is responsible for performing scheduled and corrective maintenance on radar, satellite communication and electronic test equipment based at the North American Warning System (NAWS) Long Range and Short Range radar sites.

This is a rotating fly in/fly out 6x6 rotating position. The candidate must be comfortable working in colder climates during a 6 week on, 6 week off rotation schedule.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in providing diagnostic, problem solving and repair capacities.
  • Organize and perform a retrofit of existing satellite communications components to achieve the project objective, which involves replacing existing Spacetel RF/IF equipment with new Advantech Transceivers, Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs) and Solid State Power Amplified (SSPAs).
  • Perform verification procedures to ensure installations are executed in accordance with the implementation instructions.
  • Interface regularly with NIST's LMSS staff as well as communicate with the North American Warning System (NAWSCC) to obtain authorization before proceeding with work requirements.
  • Check and approve that all equipment changes, upgrades, or improvements are completed in accordance with the following instructions including equipment change/modifications involving following tasks:
  • After completion of the work, complete the master audit and follow the following instructions:
  • Redline all changes to TB drawing packages.
  • Detail all equipment changes
  • Replace the original drawing with the copy.
  • Clean up the work area, and package up waste for return and disposal.
  • All equipment was removed from the warehouse for return to the Logistics Depot.
  • Records of implementation of instruction activity.
  • Other duties assigned by a higher authority, which are unplanned or of a transient nature.


EDUCATION:

  • Two year electronic technician program from a recognized and accredited institution, or Canadian equivalent. )

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two years of related experience in maintaining electronic systems.
  • Experience in the use of general electronic test and repair equipment.

KNOWLEDGE OF: Data Communications systems, data and video monitoring systems, and Satellite communications systems.

What are the competitive skills and abilities? What are some examples?
Proficient in the use of the following special tools and test equipment:

  • Standard electronics toolkit
  • Spectrum analyzer
  • RF power meter
  • 50 MHz reference generator
  • DC Block (C-Band)
  • Digital camera
  • Laptop or PC with Advantech SCI software (training on Advantech software will be provided).
  • BER test unit (FIREBEAR 6000 or equivalent)
  • Crimp tool for D-Sub connectors.
  • Wire wrap tool
  • Solid computer skills (MS Word and Excel), communication, and documentation/report writing skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification as an engineering technician or the possession of a license to acquire property are considered assets.
  • Superior troubleshooting skill and good manual dexterity.
  • Due to many dealings with internal project stakeholders, professional and friendly conduct.
  • With the ability to work with limited supervision and make decisions consistently by choosing from approved procedures, motivated.
  • A sound judgment is required to analyse facts and select appropriate solutions.
  • As required, they must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including a fall arrest harness.
  • Ability to work under physically challenging, often adverse weather conditions in remote Arctic locations.
