Prince Rupert School District No. 52 is seeking an outstanding leader for the district.
Effective October 1, 2023, the position of food distribution coordinator will be mutually agreeable.
THE SCHOOL DISTRICT

School District No. 52 (Prince Rupert) is located within the traditional Tennessean Territory of British Columbia and serves the small communities of Hartley Bay and Prince Edward Island in addition to the city of Prince Rupert. Our student population is roughly 2,800, and 64% of students are Indigenous. The school system includes one secondary school, one middle school, one store-front school and one school on the reserve:
THE POSITION
The District School Food Coordinator will support the implementation of the School food program : future school food program. and will work with schools and community partners to ensure that students facing food insecurity have adequate access to nutritious food so that they are well fed and are able to focus and learn. The District School Food Coordinator supports the school district in developing and coordinating programs and services that support the immediate need of providing healthy meals to students in a stigma and barrier-
free manner at all sites in School District 52. THE CANDIDATE
The District Food Coordinator will need to be able to work collaboratively with high volume food service, chef with experience in program development, delivery and monitoring. The District's food coordinator must have training in nutrition, population health, and sustainable food systems and services. They must also be eligible to work in Canada.
Responsibilities
- Assess the current assets and operations of school food programs across School District 52, including, but not limited to, existing programs, staffing, infrastructure and equipment.
- Manage the food program and support school-based programs, including partnerships, grant applications, etc.
- Identify opportunities and conditions required to maintain or expand existing programs, develop new school food programs, and work to improve these conditions.
- A district-wide, collaborative approach to the planning and delivery of school meals and food programs.
- Oversee program delivery throughout the district, including identifying needs and communicating with school districts, families, and students.
- Coordinate the menu and evaluate the nutritional content of the meals provided.
- Manage and oversee food safety including any coordination or collaboration with BC Food Safe to train staff, volunteers. Or obtain licenses or permits for services on school district grounds?
- On an ongoing basis, maintain and update your inventory of assets.
- Maintain and prepare reports for the school district, the ministry of education and the child care.
- Manage the food service budget and ensure that expenses are within budgetary constraints. )
- Building and sustaining existing community partnerships with food producers, parents, and advisory committees (not-for-profit), local businesses. Indigenous communities and communities to support the distribution of healthy meals to students.
- Support new and existing school food programs to incorporate principles of inclusion, equity and diversity into their design and implementation in order to ensure that programs are universally accessible.
