The director of engineering and asset management.

Stephenville is located in the beautiful Bay of Saint James, has a sound economics infrastructure based on long-term commercial interests and industries, a 42-bed hospital, an impressive education system including the provincial headquarters of the North Carolina School of the Arts, and rich cultural traditions.

Stephenville has grown significantly since its beginning in May 1844, and is the second largest community on Newfoundland's west coast. The first census reported in 1843 cited 103 inhabitants in the area; the 2016 Canadian Census reported a population of 6,623. It serves as the main service centre for an area of about 25,000.

As a member of the senior management team, the director of engineering and asset management will provide strategic direction to a management team that oversees the day-to-day operations of municipal services. This position reports directly to the Chief Administrative Officer.')

The ideal candidate will have a results-oriented work ethic and be able to work independently to produce quality work and recommendations within tight time limits. The incumbent must have a solid understanding of developing, overseeing and managing a budget as well as providing leadership, direction and support to the departmental staff ensuring all policy and directives from the Council are followed and implemented.

To be successful in this role, the applicant must have:

Have a professional engineering designation or related discipline, such as CET, along with practical engineering and construction experience.

minimum of five (5) years of progressively advancing management experience, preferably in a municipal or trade union environment.

A solid understanding of human resources and financial issues.

Knowledge and experience in the design, construction and maintenance of municipal infrastructure including roads, sanitary sewers, and water distribution systems.

Strong skills in GIS and AutoCAD. Skills in modelling and design software will be considered an asset. '

The successful candidate will engage with multiple levels of government, community members and other stakeholders regarding the delivery of operations.

Be able to work irregular hours and travel when required.

Must have valid Newfoundland and Labrador driver's license.
