Job Summary

An excellent opportunity for an experienced biologist to make a difference.

The Land Use Policy, Planning and Ecosystems Division works with Indigenous governments to modernize land use planning with community, societal and public input, including the operation and expansion of Indigenous Pipeline forums and working with First Nations on the collaborative stewardship of natural resources and the monitoring of cumulative effects.

The aquatic ecologists are a professional section of the ecosystems section and technical experts on aquatic ecosystems and their health. The position supports a range of aquatic biodiversity initiatives, which may include planning and objective-setting, legal habitat protection, habitat restoration projects, authorizations/references, Cumulative Effects assessments and unambiguous effectiveness monitoring.

Job Requirements:

• minimum bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field, with aquatic focus. )
• * Minimum three years of related experience (see Related Experience section below for accepted forms) can be cumulative. )
• Registered, or **eligible, as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology (CAB).
  • Note: Eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction within six (6) months of employment. *
• Recently (within the last 5 years) experienced stewards of wild life and/or species within aquatic ecosystems.
• Valid B.C. driver’s licence.

• Experiences (a combination of two or more)

• Experience in conducting field assessments of aquatic species or ecosystems.

• Natural resource management experience includes developing, interpreting and applying laws and policy.
• Experience in providing science and technical advice to management, negotiating solutions, and making decisions within and outside of government. Experience in building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders (e.g., environmental regulators, government and non-government agencies; public and private resource development agencies). [

The preference of applicants with the following may be given:

• Experience in a specialty area related to aquatic ecosystems, such as watershed management, aquatic habitat restoration, water quality modelling, environmental flow assessment or aquatic species as risk recovery.
• Recently (within 5 years) and directly applying BC's natural resource laws and/or legislation.
• Experience in project management including funding applications, budget management and/or reporting.
• Recently, I have been developing and promoting working relationships with First Nations.

• Meet or exceed BC's safety standards.
• May require the operation of a variety of equipment.
• Field work which may include the following: travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, or air, over night or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Can carry equipment and supplies in a difficult terrain.

About this Position:

Flexible work options are available, this position may be able to work from home a few days per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship offices: Invermere, Revelstoke, Cranbrook, Nelson, Scotia.

At the time of employment, employees must be located in Canada. '
