About Us


The Data, Privacy and Innovation Division uses a one-government approach to information and privacy governance, decision-making and service delivery across the Government of Alberta (GoA) balanced with individual client needs. This facilitates enhanced data sharing, collaboration, reduction in data duplication and innovation to ensure effective and efficient services across the government to provide better services to Albertans.



The Innovation System Integration Branch is focused on driving alignment between the priorities and activities of the ministry's agencies and the department, delivering programming and ensuring the ministry's business planning and corporate services are completed effectively.



The Innovation Mobilization and Discovery Unit, builds, supports, and promotes innovation capacity in Alberta's businesses, entrepreneurs and post-secondary institutions (PSIs) by ensuring the province has world leading talent and state of the art facilities to drive growth and attract investment. This unit has the responsibility to lead and manage a number of programs and investments to support enhanced research and innovation under Alberta's key sectors, as well as regional economic development.


Role

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Investments, the Senior Advisor provides leadership, operational, and analytical services for multi-million dollar and significant Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI), its successor programs, including projects that are provided to agencies, in addition to other programs supported by the Unit such as investments connected with the ATIS.


This suite of grants and investments represents some of the most complex grants within the department. The Senior Advisor will also contribute to updating and renewing these programs and initiatives as required, while assisting with the creation of new initiatives. The SRI assists Alberta in creating conditions that promote economic growth and prosperity through research and innovation capacity growth projects that lay the foundations for business to thrive, and by attracting and retaining talent to support diversification and development.


The Senior Advisor is responsible for leading the department's assessment and analysis of reports received from program recipients. This assessment process entails examining trends, identifying strategic correlations, considering the Ministry's position, and considering the interests and concerns of stakeholders. This analysis is crucial as it provides essential insights that guide the creation of program policies related to fostering technology-driven economic growth throughout the province.


The Senior Advisor has a fundamental role in providing sound evidence-based information, advice, and recommendations to the Manager, Director, Executive Director, Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister, Minister, and other senior officials within the Ministry and GoA. This role extends to active participation in GoA cross-ministry initiatives and advocating for appropriate levels of funding to support technology and innovation-based economic development throughout Alberta.


The Senior Advisor contributes to the efficient functioning and management of the unit and Branch. This contribution encompasses the identification and resolution of intricate and multifaceted issues, many of which require leadership in gathering and analyzing input from stakeholders in both the public and private sectors, as well as from various divisions within the Ministry. The outcome of these efforts culminates in the formulation of strategic recommendations.

Qualifications

A university degree in Business Administration or Science or related field, plus four (4) years of related experience in program delivery, research funding, financial analysis, or creation of program guidelines is required.


Experience in the following will be considered an asset:
  • Content knowledge of research and related funding at the provincial and federal levels
  • Knowledge of grant funding programs
  • Developing or providing input into reports (e.g., summary reports, briefing notes, annual reports, guidelines etc.)
  • Conducting data or trend analysis

Equivalency:
  • A diploma in a related field plus six (6) years of related experience
  • A certificate in a related field plus seven (7) years of related experience

Salary

$2,716.64 to $3,550.90 bi-weekly ($70,904 - $92,678/ year)

This position is eligible for remote or hybrid work options (must be within Alberta)
