Role

The Economic Development and Business Supports (EDBS) Division is focused on driving the Ministry's economic development agenda through policies, strategies, and programs that help to create jobs and diversify Alberta's economy. The Regional and Northern Economic Development (RNED) Branch is responsible for supporting regional economic development by providing tailored services across the province; conducting research analysis and policy advice to stimulate economic development across Alberta's regions; design and delivery of northern development programs such as the NADC bursaries; and providing agency governance and secretariat support to the Northern Alberta Development Council (NADC).

Reporting to the Manager, this position is responsible for ensuring program processes are aligned and compliant with provincial guidelines and processes through examining and exploring processes for improved efficiencies and effectiveness. This position also supports the Director, Managers, bursary selection committees, sponsors, recipients and employers. Primary responsibilities include

  • Plan the development of new program offerings, working strategically with internal and external stakeholders on design and development of programs, services and initiatives to advance the outcomes.
  • Identify and complete or participate in research projects required for the development of new programs and to review existing bursaries effectiveness.
  • Develop and deliver material as required for implementation of the bursary program including interpretation of regulations/guidelines/eligibility criteria and payments process.
  • Ensure that the personal information of recipients and sponsors is managed in a manner consistent with GoA privacy and security requirements and meets current provincial guidelines for the collecting, storing and sharing of personal data, FOIP and records management.
  • Participate in creating a marketing plan, program review, updates and training for existing programs as required.
  • Provide sound evidence-based information, advice, and recommendations to the Manager, Director, and other senior officials within the Ministry and GoA.


Coordinate and supervise responses to external and internal requests for information and statistics on the program.

Qualifications

University degree in Economics and Business or related field. At least two years of experience working in progressively more complex roles.

Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

Assets:

  • Experience in program development or delivery in the context of public administration is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of legislation and regulations for student funding.
  • Awareness of stakeholder and applicant groups within the program is desirable.
  • Knowledge of current grant funding programs, including core responsibilities, guidelines, agreements, program delivery processes and accountability requirements.
  • Strong writing, editing and researching skills.
  • Knowledge of approaches related to evaluation and performance measurement / accountability frameworks.
  • Experience or significant exposure to issues and challenges of Northern Alberta.

Salary

$2,626.89 to $3,448.73 bi-weekly ($68,561.83 - $90,011.85/year)

This is a permanent, full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
