Summary
The Pilot Driver is required to safely drive a pilot vehicle equipped with warning lights and signs to escort truck hauling over dimensional loads on public and private thoroughfares. The pilot vehicle drives before or following the truck and trailer unit, as per permit requirements, to provide warning to other motorists and to clear traffic as necessary. The Pilot Driver uses two-way radio with the truck to coordinate changes in speed and route, identifying any special hazards or emergencies and traffic congestion.

Job Duties
  • Conduct vehicle check to detect any deficiencies and ensure that all signs, lights, horns and safety devices are in good working order and turned on.
  • Comply with traffic regulations, and permit conditions.
  • Maintain required paperwork for compliance with regulations.
  • Report any incident, or damage of any kind to Logistics Manager.
  • Assist truck driver with on site bin delivery as necessary including touch up painting, bolting down the bin, restoring site to original condition.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Valid Class 5 Driver License
  • Clean driving record
  • Experience with pilot driving or driving for long periods an asset.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail

Work Conditions
  • 24/7 availability may be required
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25lb
  • Sitting for long periods of time
