This is technical and operational work in the provision of first level user support and problem resolution services to the organization. An incumbent responds to user calls, investigates and resolves software, microcomputer and hardware problems; installs and configures software and hardware; and establishes and maintains liaison with users and provides guidance and informal training to same; may perform clerical tasks. The work is performed under general supervision and requires the exercise of independence of judgement and action in the technical and operational aspects of the work referring more complex or unusual issues to a supervisor or appropriate technical staff. Keeps abreast of developments in corporate standards, application software, utilities, and support tools. Prepares and maintains a variety of material such as databases, manual records, files, and reports related to service desk activities; maintains, reviews and updates asset inventory data; assists in the development of user aids, in-house manuals and help desk procedures and scripts. Performs other related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of a one year certificate program in computer sciences or related discipline at a technical institute or community college, plus sound related experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of problem definition and solution techniques applicable to the work performed. Ability to examine users’ current applications, practices, and needs, and identify problems and recommend or develop solutions or improvements; to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to speak effectively before small groups of employees; to lift and set-up computer and peripheral equipment. Knowledge of alarm, building access control and CCVE system are considered assets. Skill in the operation of equipment used in the work. A valid Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia is required. The incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
