Landscape Technician II

Landscaping plays a key role in shaping our urban neighbourhoods and is a primary determinant of our city's environmental, financial and social sustainability. The development industry supports this sustainability by contributing millions of dollars annually in landscaping infrastructure to the City of Edmonton through the land development process. To mitigate long term maintenance liabilities, the Landscape Technician II ensures developer-contributed landscaping designs meet City standards and best practices.

The Landscape Technician II is responsible for drawing review and recommending or not recommending approval of design drawings for developer contributed landscaping and open space improvements. This position works within a multidisciplinary team of drawing reviewers. It is a highly independent role encompassing a variety of landscaping disciplines and projects of small to large scope.

Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve results in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way. With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Review, evaluate and prepare responses to consultants’ landscaping designs and drawings with City Landscaping Design and Construction Standards, subdivision requirements and City policies, recommending approval of drawings when City requirements, standards and other regulations have been met

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, Council, and senior management in the implementation of City standards, policies, and bylaws; support other internal agencies by providing input and/or technical support, which may include updating City standards and the Landscape Inspector Manual
  • Engage stakeholders within other sections and departments
  • Provide general support in the Development Engineering and Drawing Review unit’s business operations
  • Perform other related duties as required
