Location:

This position is required to work in person at Roads, Parks & Forestry, (5151 New St Burlington until September 2023; and at 3330 Harvester Rd from September 2023 onwards). Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for designing and preparing the layout and manufacture of standard and specialized signs for all City needs.

Responsibilities:

The Graphic Design Technician is responsible for:

  • Creating the artwork/graphic component of the signs required by the City based on the Ontario Traffic Manual or for City projects, based only on a concept and size parameters.
  • Preparing signs using graphic design software.
  • Creating and manufacturing specialized and custom signs including design, layout and assembly.
  • Manage daily workload and ensuring that signs are available when required, particularly when dealing with emergency road closures or special events.
  • Making and preparing screens and operates screen printing press for sign manufacturing.
  • Operating and maintaining, all equipment used for sign manufacturing, including computer operated vinyl graphics cutter, large format digital printer and a variety of power equipment, including electrical saws and drills.Maintaining computerized inventory of materials and is responsible for updating inventory as stock is acquired and used.

Requirements:

The Graphic Design Technician will have a College diploma in Graphic Design complemented with three years experience with at least one year in sign manufacturing. The Technician requires the ability to deal with a fast paced environment with competing demands. There is a requirement to meet the physical demands of the job including exposure to hazardous materials. The Technician has excellent customer service skills and is able to work independently to meet expected standards and timelines.

A valid G-Class driver’s licence is required with an acceptable driver’s abstract (no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire).
